Low Water Indoor Plants

Best Low Water Indoor Plants

People are increasingly spending a large portion of their time confined indoors.  Fortunately, new trends in architecture and interior design recognize the need to have more foliage and greenery to bring the freshness of nature indoors.

Hence, it is now not uncommon to find indoor gardens or a living wall or at least a grouping of plants scattered around workplaces.

If you are looking to add indoor plants to your space, it is important to consider those that will thrive best in your office environment.  They should be fairly easy to care for. Therefore, plants needing little water and care, and those that thrive even under low or artificial light usually make the ideal indoor plants, particularly for an office.

Here are some great low water indoor plants:

Orchids have a reputation of being hard to grow. However, this simply is not true anymore. There are many species of orchids that are not only easy to care for but are also long lasting.

If you like to incorporate flowering plants into your indoor plantscape, some orchids like moth orchids can sport flowers for 4 to 5 months.  Orchids are also a good example of plants needing little water. They only need to be watered once a week or up to every 10 days.

Pothos

Snake Plant

Known by its other more interesting name – Mother-in-law’s tongue (Sansevieria species), this plant is another plant that grows under tough conditions. In fact, some experts even say they thrive on neglect.

It can go for long stretches of time without being watered.  It can survive indoors under low to medium light so it’s perfect for workplaces.  Like succulents, you can add color and texture to your indoor plantscape using snake plants because they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors.

The spider plant normally thrives in sunny conditions.  However, they adapt well to low light spaces. Depending on how much light is in your space, they can go without watering from 10 to 14 days. The spider plant has bright green or variegated, grasslike foliage.

What’s interesting about this plant is it produces multitude baby plants that look like miniature versions of the mother plant as it matures. These go out in arching stems from the main plant. An interesting to highlight this plant’s feature is to grow it in a hanging basket or tall urn where the dangling mini plants can be seen.

Succulents
